the history

Paul Wiemes established this tent in 1950 as a compensation concession after WWII destroyed his original Augustenstraße café, which was well-known for its “Mohrenkopf” pastry. At Oktoberfest, it changed its name to Café Mohrenkopf and gained notoriety for its jukebox music, 1950s charm, and freshly baked goods. Under Katharina Wiemes’ direction, it transformed over the years from a vintage coffee shop to a contemporary café-wine tent (2008), fusing live music, mixed drinks, and housemade cakes.

To reflect contemporary ideals, the tent changed its name to Café Theres’ in 2022 and renamed its signature pastry “Theresienbusserl” (Therese’s Kiss). A nostalgic-modern design was introduced in 2023, when Munich artist Silvia Penelope Schmidt painted romantic picnic scenes on the walls.

music

The Monaco Allstars set the mood with a traditional Oktoberfest party vibe reminiscent of warm little tents, bringing daily musical magic to the tent. The fun begins at 7:00 PM Monday through Thursday, and the band starts at 6:00 PM on Saturdays and Sundays. Every evening feels truly Wiesn thanks to their energetic mesh of lively party hits, crowd-pleasing sing-alongs, and Bavarian folk tunes that keep steins clinking and toes tapping.

Serving Drinks

Café Theres provides a welcome alternative to Oktoberfest traditions. It avoids beer altogether and opts for a chic wine and café atmosphere. Enjoy hand-crafted cocktails and long drinks, or sip on crisp rosé, elegant white wines, bubbly Prosecco, or premium champagne. It also offers artisanal coffee brews and non-alcoholic beverages for both coffee lovers and non-drinkers.

Café Theres does not accommodate table bookings during morning time, so it’s perfect for an unplanned visit or for small groups to have an easy start for their Oktoberfest day. Walk-ins are welcome without a reservation in the mornings and early afternoons, making it the ideal place to enjoy pastries and coffee in a relaxed setting. However, because of the tent’s lively atmosphere and popularity, tables fill up quickly after sunset, so larger groups planning evening visits are strongly encouraged to reserve tables in advance.
