the history
Bodo, who was born in 1947 into a family involved in the textile industry, had originally envisioned a career in fashion, but his mother encouraged him to pursue a career in cooking instead, which was a fortunate turn of events that ignited his passion. Bodo, who was well-known for his inventiveness and sense of humour, delighted visitors with his whimsical outlook on life, frequently comparing it to a “colourful box of chocolates” full of delightful surprises.
Otto Lindinger, a fellow carnival prince from Munich’s Narrhalla association, crossed his path and forged a partnership combining tradition and new ideas. After Otto became managing director in 2009, Bodo trusted him with his life’s work, Bodo’s Cafézelt, in 2014, making sure its legacy continued to flourish under the new management.
Beer
Instead of serving beer at Oktoberfest, Bodo’s Cafézelt positions itself as a stylish café and cocktail bar. It offers prosecco, champagne, artisanal coffee, and handcrafted cocktails to satisfy those who prefer sophistication to steins.
menu
Bodo’s Cafézelt welcomes you to begin your day with a warm Bavarian twist by serving you rich doughnuts or Auszogne, which are crisp pastries made with powdered sugar. Enjoy artisan confections throughout the morning, such as buttery tarts, layered cakes, and even treats infused with Kirschwasser (cherry brandy) for daring sweet tooths.
In the evening, the tent is transformed into a stylish cocktail lounge with live music that serves sophisticated long drinks and exotic concoctions, such as espresso martinis, mojitos, or bubbly spritzers, which are ideal for toasting under the Wiesn lights.
