the history
Hochreiters Haxnbraterei, a popular, smaller-scale tent at Munich’s Oktoberfest since 1979, provides a more personal setting than the festival’s enormous beer tents. Managed by Dieter and Christl Hochreiter, this welcoming location ensures that visitors experience the genuine Oktoberfest spirit away from the typical crowds by fusing genuine Bavarian charm with individualised hospitality. Its enduring appeal stems from its cosy, unique ambiance, which is a welcome change from the bigger, noisier venues.
family atmosphere
Hochreiter’s Haxn Roaster is a good place to bring the family to experience Oktoberfest without the weekend crowds. For optimum enjoyment, go weekdays between noon and 5 p.m.—when seats are typically available even without a reservation (except weekends and holidays). The tent offers full, reasonably priced lunch specials such as beef goulash, meatballs, or beer roast, with a daily-changing menu until they sell out. A genuine insider tip for those yearning for authentic Bavarian taste in a laid-back atmosphere.
Beer
To go with its hearty Bavarian cuisine, Haxenbraterei Hochreiters serves a variety of beverages. In addition to the finest Ruinart Champagne from Reims, France, guests can savour traditional Oktoberfest beers like Löwenbräu and Augustiner.
The tent offers sparkling water, Coca-Cola, Red Bull, Fanta, Cola Zero, mineral water (Mineralwasser), and apple juice (Apfelsaft) for those who would rather not drink alcohol. A fruit-based digestif is offered to complete the meal in traditional Bavarian fashion, making it the ideal way to cap off a genuine Oktoberfest meal.
