the history

This second-oldest Oktoberfest tent, which was established in 1885 by Joseph Ammer and is currently run by his descendant Josef Schmidbauer, is a stronghold of custom and natural innovation. Since 2000, it has served only organic chicken, sourced locally in Bavaria following a supply scandal in 2009. It is well-known for its 70% organic menu, which includes organic duck since 2022. Roasting 15,000 to 17,000 chickens per festival, its heritage and quality attract devoted crowds despite being more expensive (organic dishes cost about 80% more).

Ammer, which was updated in 2019 with eco-friendly procedures, food sharing, and a collaboration to help employees with disabilities, strikes a balance between modern ideals and rustic charm (wooden spits, vintage décor). It has been a timeless Oktoberfest icon where sustainability and Bavarian tradition collide, from grilling guests’ own birds in the 1800s to serving ethical feasts today.

Music

The Ammer tent provides a lively soundtrack for every moment of Oktoberfest, from folk tunes during the day to thrilling evenings.

Daytime Entertainment

Bringing 16+ years of Oktoberfest charm, solo artist “Bayern-Hans” (Hans Ketelhut) combines rock ‘n’ roll, pop hits, and Bavarian/Austrian folk tunes with wit and charisma on Mondays and Tuesdays. The group “Exxtra Music,” which consists of Klaus Rössl and Bernhard Liwowsky, refreshes audiences Thursday through Saturday with disco, soul, Latin beats, and festival mainstays like “Munich Beer Blosn.”

Nightly Party Vibes (7:00–11:00 PM)

With a 16-day schedule of rock classics, contemporary chart-topping songs, and Oktoberfest anthems, the TETRAPACK band takes over evenings, guaranteeing endless singing and dancing. Their mesh of warmth, humour, and upbeat music produces the perfect festive ambiance.

Beer

Oktoberfest purists value the authentic Bavarian brew experience that the Hühner- und Entenbraterei AMMER tent offers, which pours Augustiner beer directly from traditional wooden barrels. Guests can enjoy non-alcoholic beverages like crisp organic apple spritzer, sparkling or still water, Coca-Cola, or rosemary lime soda.
